Happy Monday!
Hereās the Business Buzz with A Helpful Trend, Tip, Tool, and
a Hot Take from HiveThink to help you this week.
01 HiveTrend - The One Goal All Social Platforms Haveā¦
š Get you to stay on their platform longer.
Why? The longer youāre on there, the more ads you see.
The more ads you see, the more money they make.
These platforms are businesses after all, so it makes sense.
Instagram is testing out carousels that have 15 slides or videos.
TikTok is pushing long-form videos (like YouTube).
When the platforms are pushing a specific way to make content, remember their reasoning. They believe these changes will keep people their longer, so if you help them get their goals, the algorithms are set up to push you out to more people.
02 HiveTip - Brain Feel Like Jelly? Do One Of These.
š„± When working on a particularly challenging project, you can hit a point where you just need to take a break.
Opening social media is probably the most common one for people nowadays, but if you find it doesnāt help you actually feel refreshed, try one of these:
walk outside
near a pet, give it a pet
exercise
go to any location different than where youāve been working
talk to a friend
do a quick sketch
š Good luck keeping your battery charged!
03 HiveTool - The Emoji Method For Clarifying Your To-Do List
Michael here! Thereās many methods for how to approach a to-do list, but hereās what I use to help keep me on track.
I like to use emojis to help me see the status of different to-doās at a glance. Iāll often add notes to help me remember any important context.
Hereās how I do it:
šÆ To-doās āļø šÆ This to-do has moved up to priority
ā Completed tasks
š Tasks that Iāve started, but not yet completed
ā±ļø Tasks where Iām waiting on something from others. (i.e. āwaiting on response from Jerry. If no response by 3pm Thursday šÆ remind Jerry to tell Ben about that ice cream flavorā)
āØ Non-urgent, but important, tasks I want to make progress on. I often like keeping one or two of these on my list so I have a productive way to shift gears if Iām getting burnt out on a different task.
All that being said, this is just how I do things. Take what you like and leave the rest!
What about you? Any helpful tactics you use for your to-do list?
04 HiveTake - Entrepreneurship In The Workplace
We believe itās important and healthy to train employees (particularly managers) to think like entrepreneurs. Some call these intrapreneurs.
So, for our purposes, this would be the type of employee who āorganizes, manages, and assumes the risks of important projects in the company.ā
They are problem aware, solution focused, and self-starters. While they arenāt taking on as much risk as the owner, they are bold and think of the business (or at least the work they do within it) as their own.
Most business owners have more of these people working for them than they realize, but they just need to help provide the conditions for that entrepreneurial spirit to grow.
How to do that is a topic for another day, but for now, hereās a challenge.
For business owners:
Who in your organization do you immediately think of that has greater potential than youāre currently utilizing?
Someone that would be excited to grow?
For employees:
Are there things you know could be better, but you havenāt felt like you could have a hand in making them better?
What might it look like if you came up with a proposed plan for a solution and ran it by the person in charge?
Maybe it could lead to a promotion, or a chance to build skills youāre hoping to build for a side hustle?
Youāre potentially one conversation away from a more exciting future.
Until next time,
The HiveThink Team
